The brief
The specific quality of three in the morning when you are awake and the building is not. Ilse described the target as 'the smell of a stone floor'.
Insomnia, and the room is very still
Dry, grey and almost mineral. Cold incense and iris root over guaiac — the least sweet thing in the catalogue.

How it was made
01
The specific quality of three in the morning when you are awake and the building is not. Ilse described the target as 'the smell of a stone floor'.
02
Iris root at this level is the single most expensive raw material we buy — six years from rhizome to usable butter. Paired with guaiac wood it produces a dry, powdery greyness that no synthetic reproduces convincingly.
03
There is almost no opening. It arrives already settled: dry incense, cold wood, a trace of violet. Utterly linear for nine hours, which is either the appeal or the objection.

It smells like a cathedral floor. Completely linear and I have never wanted it to change.
Not a compliment-getter. Bought it for myself and wear it at home, which feels correct.
